Quarantine Dream

What a ride it has been. Staying home in the house all year long. Not being able to be close to the people that you love. Little to no human contact. Living that quarantine dream. Having to adjust your life to cope with the new standard has not been fun.

There have been many instances where I wished that this year would just be over. Dealing with being unemployed or furloughed, whatever term they want to use at this point. The country dealing with all the social issues concerning Black Americans and police brutality. Trump. Just writing the mans last name you know exactly what I am talking about. Too many times this year have I had to shake my head at all the madness going on. It seemed that every chance we had to take a breath there was a new set of issues that were popping up in America that just made it more difficult to cope.

If it were not for my friends and family, I probably would not have even picked up my camera this year. I was in a bit of a funk and they helped me break out of it. With everything going on it was more difficult to find ways to stay motivated or inspired. Most events were cancelled so I could not do any event coverage. At the same time planning out projects and photoshoots just seemed a bit too risky and I did not want to put my life or anyone else’s in jeopardy for a few good shots.  I was really hoping I would be able to get some coverage of all the parades or festivals going on in the city but maybe next year when things go back to normal. It has been rough but a, but I managed to stay busy somehow.

Over the summer I was able to see a particularly good friend of mine. I have not seen her in maybe 3-4 years. She wanted some nice photos of her and the hubby. Due to the quarantine, it was hard to find someone willing to take photos of the newlyweds.  I also got to take some headshots for a real estate friend down in the seaport. After planning to do this shoot for months we finally had time to make it happen and they came out great.

It felt good to get some work and practice in. I was rusty for sure. Thank god I know how to edit.

This year really made me question how I wanted to move forward with my photography. It made me rethink how I should approach setting up new shoots and projects with the current Covid-19 crisis. I found that there is still a need for photos in this pandemic and there are a bunch of ways to get it done. I somehow stumbled into baby photography and I have been looking at product photography as well as finding a platform for stock photos. Even though this year has been filled with nonsense and frustration. I am happy to be able to find new ways to stay productive.
